A Brief History
It all began from the recorded instances of conflict over the site amongst the religious communities, the glance of which was witnessed during the year 1853 in the British rule which marked the era of sociopolitical transition throughout the country. The Hindus claimed the site to be Ram Janambhoomi asserting that the Babri Masjid was built on the top of it. Separate areas for Hindus and muslims were set up in the region during British rule. However, post independence, the ensuing controversy over the matter resulted in closing of the site to both the communities. This closure was followed by several campaigns and conflicts to build Ram Mandir and this further led to a series of court battles took place and it was in the year 2010 when the High court decision divided the site between Hindus and Muslims. This decision of the high-court however was appealed by the litigants of both the communities. Finally, it was in the year 2019 when the Supreme Court gave its final verdict on the Ayodhya Ram Mandir dispute case and entrusted the site exclusively to Hindus and alternately offering the Sunni Waqf Board with 5 Acres of land at a different location for the purpose of building a mosque.
